Unfortunately upgrading a laptop with notebook computer parts often involves a bit of a compromise. The elements that most people desire to upgrade are the screen or the clock speed processor. However this kind of upgrade almost always cuts into the life of your notebook processor's battery. A notebook that functions for eight hours may only function for three hours with an upgraded clock processor. For this reason most people prefer to upgrade their laptop before they purchase it by requesting a faster processor, more memory or a hard drive with more capacity. If you start adding on more notebook parts, your laptop starts to lose power. As notebooks and laptops are so cheap, manufacturers would rather see you buy a completely new one rather than try to upgrade one that is obsolete. However, all notebooks, old or new, have the same basic components: 2.5 hard disks, 144-pin SO-DIMM memory and an Intel processor. These components actually can be replaced with faster or higher capacity parts very easily. The problem is that you would have to purchase these notebook and laptop parts from used or discount sites and stores, as the manufacturers do not usually put these parts on the market. However swapping
your hard drive for a higher capacity model or replacing your processor
with a swifter one is entirely possible and quite cost effect. Why
pay $300 for a manufacturer's upgrade from 10gb to 30gbs for your
hard drive when you can pick up the same thing for only $140 at
a local retailer? Why spend $400 to trade in your 700MHz Mobile
Pentium for the latest 800 MHz when the processor can be upgraded
If you want to upgrade your notebook's hard disk there are not more than a handful laptop part manufacturers to choose from. IBM is the only company offering a 2.5" notebook hard disk with a 5400-rpm spindle speed, with either a 32 or 48GB capacity. These are the very same drives that can be found inside expensive high-end notebook. Most notebook manufacturers have made it impossible to swap the motherboards as they are designed to fit individual casing and are also designed to become obsolete or go defective over time. Unlike what many people believe, most notebook CPUs aren't soldered on the motherboard thus making a replacement or upgrade impossible, they can be replaced or upgraded relatively easy. Despite what you may have been told the processor, hard disk and memory can easily be upgraded using notebook computer parts and laptop computer parts that are available for sale both on-line and at many discount and used computer part retail outlets.
