About Computer Parts And Where To Save Money
The computer obviously requires many computer parts. But what parts
are of the best quality? Where can you get used or cheap parts without
losing quality?
All these questions will be answereed here...
Computer Parts: Basic Information
The computer is so widely used all over the world
that it has become an unalterable part of our everyday's life. Many
of us use the computer in our offices; others use it for a source
of useful information, still others –just for fun. That is why,
when something goes wrong with your computer, you need to fix it.
Imagine you have broken a part in your computer, for example,
the monitor! You cannot work, cannot play, and cannot look for information.
And so, you will have to look for a new monitor.
There is a great number of sites on the internet, which offer
spare parts. If you are curious to see some of the most demanded
parts for computers, then this article is made just for you...
Computer Parts: The Case
So, let's start with the one of the most needed spare
parts, or the case. The computer case is basically a box in which
all the parts of your computer are kept. This box has a front and
a back panel. On the front panel you can see the CD ROM drive
(some cases have more than one place for the CD ROM drives, because
some people prefer to have more than one drive on their PCs), the
floppy drive, the reset switch and the power switch.
If you have seen a few older cases, you have surely seen a small
display, showing the speed of the CPU (or the processor), measured
in MHz. Nowadays, there is no such thing on the modern cases.
Computer Parts: Basic Information
The next computer part that may be of interest for
you is the motherboard. The motherboard is the physical arrangement
in a computer that contains the computer's basic circuitry and components.
On the typical motherboard, the circuitry is imprinted or affixed
to the surface of a firm planar surface and usually manufactured
in a single step.
Copper circuit paths called traces that resemble
a complicated roadmap carry signals and voltages across the motherboard.
Layered fabrication techniques are used so that some layers of a
board can carry data for the BIOS, processor and memory buses while
other layers carry voltage and ground returns without the paths
short-circuiting at intersections. The insulated layers are manufactured
into one complete, complex sandwich. Chips and sockets are soldered
onto the motherboard. The most common motherboard design in desktop
computers today is the AT, based on the IBM AT motherboard.
A more recent motherboard specification, ATX, improves on the AT
design.
And of course there are some computer components which are included
in almost every motherboard. These are the microprocessor, coprocessors,
memory, basic input/output system (BIOS), expansion slot, and interconnecting
circuitry.
Computer Parts: Hard Disc Drive
Now, let's say a few words about the hard disc drive.
A hard disk drive in computing is a type of storage device made
up of hard disk platters, a spindle, read and write heads read and
write arms, electrical motors, and integrated electronics contained
inside an airtight enclosure. As you can see, we have already defined
some of the most demanded parts for computers. There are a few more
things to be said about the floppy disk drive, the keyboard, the
mouse, and the monitor.
Computer Parts: Floppy Drive
The floppy disk drive is one of the easiest parts
of the computer to work with. Considering other components in your
system, there isn't much to know about floppy drives. Nonetheless,
they are very important to some. Less important to others because
they are being phased out and replaced by CD-Rom and DVD drives.
Most computers have a floppy drive. There are
two kinds of floppy disk drives. The old ones are 5-1/4's. These
drives are big and ugly. They accept the big 5-1/4" disks. You know
them -the bendable ones. And the disks don't hold that much either.
Today, we laugh at a computer that still has one of these things.
Today, most computers have 3.5" drives. These drives accept diskettes,
little 3.5" disks. These diskettes come in different densities.
The old ones are single-density. They only hold 720K of data. The
standard disks of today are called high-density. They usually hold
1.44MB of data.
The newest disks are called extended-capacity and they hold
2.88MB.
Computer Parts: The Keyboard
And now, you will probably want to move on the next
computer part, or the keyboard.
The keyboard is the set of typewriter-like keys that
enables you to enter data into a computer. Computer keyboards are
similar to electric-typewriter keyboards but contain additional
keys. The keys on computer keyboards are often divided into three
groups -alphanumeric keys, punctuation keys and special keys (function
keys, control keys, arrow keys, Caps Lock key, and so on). The standard
layout of letters, numbers, and punctuation is known as a QWERTY
keyboard because the first six keys on the top row of letters
spell QWERTY.
The QWERTY keyboard was designed in the 1800s for mechanical
typewriters and was actually designed to slow typists down to avoid
jamming the keys. Another keyboard design, which has letters positioned
for speed typing, is the Dvorak keyboard. And as you probably
know, there is no standard computer keyboard, although many manufacturers
imitate the keyboards of PCs. There are actually three different
PC keyboards: The original PC keyboard, with 84 keys; the AT
keyboard, also with 84 keys; and the enhanced keyboard, with 101
keys. The three differ somewhat in the placement of function keys,
the Control key, the Return key, and the Shift keys.
Computer Parts: The Mouse
The mouse is a device that controls the movement
of the cursor or pointer on a display screen. It is a small object
you can roll along a hard, flat surface. Its name is derived from
its shape, which looks a bit like a mouse, its connecting wire that
one can imagine to be the mouse's tail, and the fact that one must
make it scurry along a surface. As you move the mouse, the pointer
on the display screen moves in the same direction. Mice contain
at least one button and sometimes as many as three, which have different
functions depending on what program is running. Some newer mice
also include a scroll wheel for scrolling through long documents.
There are three types of mice on the market. These are the
mechanical, the optomechanical, and the optical mouse.
Computer Parts: The Monitor
You see, we have finally reached the definition
of the monitor, our first example in this article. The monitor
is another term for display screen. The term monitor, however, usually
refers to the entire box, whereas display screen can mean just the
screen. In addition, the term monitor often implies graphics capabilities.
There are a few types of monitors, which are CRT monitors, Flat
technology monitors, LCD displays, and Gas plasma monitors.
You see, we have finally reached the end of the article.
Hopefully you have found enough useful information about the different
computer parts. If you need to find one or all of these computer
parts without sacrificing quality, see the links below for help.
